We all have our favorite Mega Man games, for me, it’s Mega Man 2, for you it could be Mega Man X or maybe an entry from the Mega Man Zero series. If it’s the latter, you’re in luck as Capcom today announced the Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection.
Releasing on January 21, 2020, the newest legacy collection bundles a selection of handheld games that released between 2002 and 2007 on the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS. Included in the collection are the following games:
- Mega Man Zero
- Mega Man Zero 2
- Mega Man Zero 3
- Mega Man Zero 4
- Mega Man ZX
- Mega Man ZX
The Zero series favored well with critics upon release, with many praising an apparent return to the roots of the franchise, even if some players dismayed at the difficulty. It is Mega Man after all.
The franchise has been undergoing a bit of a renaissance in recent times with legacy collections already available for the mainline series as well as the X collection. I’m too lazy to count them all, but there’s plenty of fun and frustration to be had out there and that can only be a good thing.
The new bundle of games will give players all the mod-cons fans have come to expect from these types of releases. There are optional HD-smoothing filters, a casual mode, and life-saving mid-level save system that feels a bit like cheating but can help alleviate frustration for some people.
On top of these qualities of life features Capcom are including an art gallery that includes over 600 pieces of art as well as a music player which includes both original and rearranged compositions. That’s not a bad deal at a cost of $29.99, in my opinion.
I’m ashamed to say I arrived late to the Mega Man scene and am slowly working my way through the games. I’ve yet to play any from the Zero series and absolutely plan on picking this up in the new year.
As mentioned the Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection releases on Jan 21 and will be available as a physical copy or digital download for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One. The PC version will only be available as a download.
