Some promising news for Star Wars: Rebels fans – Mena Massoud is reportedly under consideration for portraying Ezra Bridger from the beloved animated series. It turns out Disney want to use the character for their upcoming live-action Star Wars movies and TV Shows and Mena Massoud is at the top of the list of potentials to portray him. Before this, the character has only ever been in animated form, voiced by Taylor Gray.

This news comes from the Kessle Run Transmissions YouTube channel. It’s important to note that the 29-year-old actor hasn’t quite bagged the role. However, Mena Massoud has been in talks for the role, with his prospects looking very good indeed.

Of course, those with good memories know this wouldn’t be the first time Massoud has worked with Disney. The actor shot to international fame after playing the titular role in 2019’s live-action Aladdin remake. He is also expected to reprise that role in a future sequel, reportedly already in the works.

Ezra Bridger is one of the main characters in the animated series Star Wars: Rebels. During the series, he is a Jedi Padawan and freedom fighter going toe-to-toe with the Galactic Empire alongside his comrades on the starship Ghost. Running for four seasons, the show received a warm reception among critics and fans alike.

The introduction of Ezra Bridger to live-action Star Wars follows the trail of Ahsoka Tano. Ahsoka Tano initially appeared only in The Clone Wars and Rebels, before being portrayed by Rosario Dawson in The Mandalorian in November 2020. Now, the character is getting her own limited series that’ll tie into one climatic event alongside a number of other Star Wars spin-offs.
