In a sudden announcement (if you missed the leak), today Konami has re-released a few of their classic titles onto PC via GOG.com. The games that got re-released on PC are Metal Gear ($5.99), Metal Gear Solid ($9.99), Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance ($9.99), and KONAMI Collector’s Series: Castlevania and Contra ($5.99). The Collector’s Series include Castlevania, Castlevania 2: Simon’s Quest, Castlevania 3: Dracula’s Curse, Contra, and Super C.

All games are fitted with Xinput controller support, meaning you can hook up an Xbox or most PC controllers and easily play the games you’ve bought. Konami hasn’t said anything about releasing them for PS4 and/or PS5. It’s a shame considering the majority of these games are not even available on the PS4’s PS Classic line-up on PlayStation Network. Maybe they will save it for when the highly-rumored Metal Gear Solid remake finally launches on next-gen consoles.

While this looks like something that’s worth celebrating, looking back, most of these games already had PC ports back in the day except for Metal Gear, which was only released for MSX2 and NES. Lots of internet users also strongly recommend people to not buy these re-release, especially for Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance. Since Metal Gear’s release is based on an old PC port that has game-breaking bugs, worse sound effects than console versions, clunky PC menus, and don’t support triggers on controllers. Thankfully, fans have made an unofficial patch to fix most of the issues.
