In exciting news, we may be able to look forward to a Metal Gear Solid re-release. As reported by Gematsu, Metal Gear, Metal Gear Solid, and Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty have received ratings for PC. The listings also include Collector’s Editions for Castlevania and Contra. While this is firmly still within rumor territory, gamers have been demanding re-releases of early Metal Gear games for years. With the majority of these games not available on the PlayStation Store’s PS Classic range for PS4, and Sony not a fan of backward compatibility, it does seem like a good time to make them available once more. It is of note though that these listings are only for PC. It is hard to imagine any releases of these games not also coming to PS5 however.

What is interesting about this leak is also the timing. With Microsoft buying Bethesda Softworks, Sony may have felt the need for their own marquee news. In addition, there have been reports of a Metal Gear Solid 1 full remake for PS5. If these rumors turn out to be true, Sony will surely be pushing for exclusivity, with the Metal Gear franchise long being seen as synonymous with PlayStation.  A Metal Gear entry of some manner has always been a key selling point of PlayStation consoles. It was only with Metal Gear Solid 5 that the franchise was playable on other platforms at launch.

As a huge fan of the series, I hope this Metal Gear Solid re-release news turns out to be true. The last Metal Gear game release was the severely underwhelming Metal Gear Survive in 2018. The last core release was Metal Gear Solid 5, way back in 2015. It really does feel like the time to bring the series back. So, what do you think? Would a Metal Gear Solid bundle on PS5 sway you in Sony’s favor?
