Publisher Dotemu and developer Leikir Studio have officially announced that the revival of the classic Metal Slug IP announced last year, Metal Slug Tactics has been delayed to 2023. No specific release date was provided. The strategy RPG is inspired by SNK’s classic 2D action series and was first announced during the 2021 Summer Game Fest and was expected to release in late 2022, but the developers confirmed in a Tweet that the game will need a bit more time before it can release.

Marco, Eri, Fio, and Tarma are tinkering away to make #MetalSlugTactics as explosive as possible on release, but the squad needs a bit more time in the shop to prepare for the battles ahead. See you in 2023! @LeikirStudio x @Dotemu ?Artwork by @AngryangryD pic.twitter.com/JRKqpnvUQp

What’s Next For Metal Slug Tactics?

Metal Slug Tactics was announced in 2021 during the Summer Game Fest and will be the latest entry in the series after over 13 years. French developer Leikir Studio, who is also developing other games like Rogue Lords and Wondershot, is in charge of development, and publisher Dotemu is famous for such titles as the recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge.

The gameplay was shown at Indie World in 2021, and the game is confirmed for Switch and PC via Steam.  The developers have yet to share any further information since this announcement until now. Currently, no information is available on when Metal Slug Tactics will release after being delayed to 2023.

The original Metal Slug series began as a 2D action game developed by Nazca Corporation prior to its merger with SNK Corporation in 1996. The series follows a group of soldiers who fend off the military, alien forces, and zombie invasions. It consists of classic run-and-gun gameplay combined with shoot-em-up mechanics. Metal Slug Tactics is the first game in the series that leans into different territory, in this case, the strategy RPG route.
