Independent developer Resni – the creator behind games like Peen Peen and Mibibli’s Quest – has announced a new game planned for release at the start of October, block-pushing puzzle game Salad Fields.
Resni – who previously went by his real name Ryan Melmoth – is a very intriguing indie developer with a penchant for making games with surrealist, experimental, and often queer themes in them. Most of his catalog is composed of smaller titles released for games jams or through itch.io, though in recent years he has expanded into somewhat larger efforts released on wider platforms. His last game Mibibli’s Quest was a sort of art-house homage to Mega-Man style 2D platformers, and was highly inventive and creative in ways most games aren’t let alone platformers. The game is available on Steam for only $6, and is very worth a look if you enjoy 2D platformers and experimental game design. It will also give you somewhat of a solid idea of what kind of work Resni tends to make.
Salad Fields is the most recent effort from both Resni and Jars, and is a 2D puzzle game that involves pushing blocks around and interacting with “weirdo characters” along the way. The game will be releasing in early access on the platform, and will be adding more puzzles and content along the way. The Steam page for the game describes it like this:
