After a long period of “will he, won’t he?” we can confirm that Michael Keaton is officially playing Batman in the 2022 Flash movie. As reported by TheWrap, Keaton’s involvement was confirmed by his agency, ICM Partners. This follows months of speculation about whether the 69-year-old actor would reprise the role in The Flash, which has recently started filming.

Speculation of Keaton’s role reprisal started around June 2020. The following October on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the Birdman actor danced around questions regarding his return. This past March, Keaton cast even more doubts when he said he was eyeing the COVID-19 situation in England, where The Flash is shooting.

Michael Keaton told Deadline last month:

Now, with the UK’s COVID-19 restrictions relaxing, vaccine roll-out underway, and anxieties lessening, it appears that Keaton finds the situation safe enough to work in. Meanwhile, Ben Affleck is expected to play his DCEU Batman opposite Keaton’s. Some reports indicate that Affleck’s Batman is set to die in the film. Affleck returned as he did not need to lead the film.

Directed by It Chapter Two Director Andy Muschietti, The Flash is expected to zoom into theaters November 4, 2022. Ezra Miller will reprise his role as the titular hero while Sasha Calle starts her role as the DCEU’s Supergirl.
