When Quantic Dream was pitching Heavy Rain to potential publishers, Microsoft was among the those considering backing the project. As it turns out, the company passed on Heavy Rain due to it’s controversial child kidnapping storyline.

In a conversation at BAFTA, Quantic Dream’s David Cage relayed the story to attendees.

“We had a very long talk and they loved Fahrenheit, and they really wanted to do something with us. They got scared by the fact that Heavy Rain was about kids being kidnapped,” said the developer. Cage also claimed that this response sent him an “interesting signal” about Microsoft, claiming that they didn’t understand what the outspoken developer was looking to achieve with the game.

Cage’s next title will arrive on the PlayStation 3 later this year, and is once again a cinematic style game that takes after Heavy Rain. Beyond: Two Souls stars Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe, and will arrive in October.
