A few days ago, a video of overheated, smoking Xbox Series X went viral. Just one day after the Xbox Series X launch. Posted on Twitter by @Arek_Adamowics on November 11, the video shows that his machine puffed out a huge cloud of smokes. Several other internet users also reported a similar issue, where their console stopped working and emitting smoke. Their examples aren’t as bad as in Adamowicz’s video though.
No one was sure what caused the issue. But Twitter user XboxStudio “debunked” the smoking Xbox Series X video by producing comparable results by using a vapor. Later, Microsoft dismissed the smoking Xbox Series X problem by asking people to not “blow vape smoke” into the console.

Seeing most gaming media only reported on Xbox’s one-sided response, Polish YouTuber Kuba Klawiter decided to interview Adamowicz. The viral smoking Xbox Series X video owner claimed that the problem comes after he left it on for “a few hours” while he went to work. After coming back home and playing two hours of Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, he heard a “boiling water noise” from the console. Then he unplugged the console and went to sleep. The next morning, it makes the same sound again followed by smokes blowing out of the vent. Adamowicz added that he never vaped or smoked in his life. After 48 hours of not getting any reply from Xbox Support, the official Xbox Polish Twitter account tweeted that they have resolved the problem with “a happy ending”. Adamowicz also confirmed that they’ve contacted him, will send a new console, and pick up “the defective unit” for testing.
