E3 is sort of like Christmas and your birthday all rolled into one, if you’re a big video game fan. The event is always one of the biggest and best of the year, with every major video game publisher and console manufacturer pulling out all the stops to deliver a big performance. These usually start with the press conferences, with EA, Activision, Bethesda, Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo delivering the biggest news of the year, in their own way. This year things are getting a bit more shaken up, with Microsoft announcing that the E3 2017 Xbox Media Briefing will be held on Sunday, June 11th at 2pm Pacific Time.
Usually the Xbox Media Briefing is held on Monday, taking place earlier in the morning, with Sony delivering their press conference late in the evening. This has held for many years, with E3 2017 marking a big departure. Still, we’ve seen this coming for a while given the shakeups going on with E3.
E3 2017 is the first year that the show will be open to the public, though these press conferences are not officially affiliated with the expo itself, so they will likely remain a press oriented event. Bethesda also began giving their own E3 press conference, though we don’t know if they’ll be repeating that this year. Bethesda was the one that moved the schedule earlier in the first place, with their conference being held on Sunday. Now EA has gone even earlier, with their EA Play event beginning on Saturday, June 10th.
Scheduling issues aside, the big question is, what will Microsoft be unveiling at their Xbox Media Briefing. They have Project Scorpio still up their sleeve, with a Holiday 2017 release date set as of now. We could see the reveal of the “most powerful console of all time”, marking a definite high point for E3 2017.
