With Sony finally opening PS4 up to cross-play functionality, it’s only a matter of weeks or months until we can play more titles outside of Fortnite together with our friends across multiple platforms.
Among these titles, we have Microsoft’s Minecraft. Microsoft has been very supportive of the feature until now and has even pushed Sony to make this move.
Windows Central reached out to Microsoft for comment on the issue and learn about the steps they’re taking to make it happen for their multi-platform games.
“We believe in giving gamers the opportunity to play the games they want with the people they want,” a spokesperson told the website, adding that they haven’t had a contact with PlayStation yet.
“Whether that means working with our partners to deliver cross-network play with games like ‘Rocket League’ and ‘Fortnite’ or enabling cross-device play with the likes of Minecraft, we are supportive of new scenarios that enable more people to play and have fun together while gaming.
We would love to bring players on PlayStation 4 into our Minecraft ecosystem as well but have nothing further to share at this time.”
Similarly, with Bethesda and Psyonix for Fallout 76 and Rocket League, the position right now at Microsoft is to wait and see what happens once cross-play gets out of the beta on Fortnite and is deployed across all PS4 games.
