Xbox One backwards compatibility has proven to be a popular feature among console owners. It appears people love to play old Xbox 360 games on the Xbox One after all.
Microsoft wrote a long blog post on 2015’s highlights on the official Xbox website. One of the things they mentioned is how popular the Xbox One backwards compatibility feature has really been.
It noted: “Since Xbox One Backward Compatibility released on Nov. 12 with more than 100 playable titles, global Xbox gamers have logged more than 15 million hours playing Xbox 360 games on Xbox One.”
This is an amazing statistic considering how crowded Fall 2015 was for actual new games. Fall 2015 had the likes of Halo 5: Guardians, Fallout 4, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Black Ops 3 and Star Wars Battlefront.
Despite a strong lineup for new AAA video games, Xbox One owners found the time to play Xbox 360 games. 15 million hours worth of gameplay is a very long time.
This just proves that people still like to play older games even though they have a new console. Some people feel backwards compatibility is a waste of time because they just play newer games only. This new statistic proves that this might be a vocal minority’s opinion.
One has to wonder if this statistic might convince Sony to finally make the PS4 backwards compatible with PS3, PS2 or PSOne games down the road. The current PS2 emulation doesn’t really count as you have to buy the games again.
