Deadline has reported that Mike Epps (The Upshaws) joined Madame Web, expanding the cast further to the Sony superhero movie by Marvel writer Denny O’Neil and artist John Romita Jr. The actor joins the Dakota Johnson-led film with costars Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, Emma Roberts, Celeste O’Connor, and Tahar Rahim.

S.J. Clarkson (Anatomy of a Scandal) is directing the film. It marks the director’s first superhero film, but she had directed episodes of Netflix’s Marvel shows The Defenders and Jessica Jones. Morbius writers Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless will pen the script. An early draft was written by Kerem Sanga (The Violent Heart).

Like most of the cast, Mike Epps’s role in Madame Web is unknown except for Johnson as she plays the titular character. Reportedly, the film will differ from the comics and be more like Doctor Strange. In the source material, she is an elderly woman on life support with psychic powers who becomes an ally to Spider-Man after discovering he is Peter Parker.
