It has been a successful year for Miles Teller and Scott Derrickson, with the actor coming off Top Gun: Maverick and the Doctor Strange director coming off The Black Phone. Now, Deadline is reporting that the two will join forces for Skydance’s The Gorge. The actor is in final negotiations to join the cast of the film that is based on a spec script by Zach Dean (The Tomorrow War).

Miles Teller will executive produce along with acting. It will be produced by David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, Scott Derrickson, C. Robert Cargill, Sherryl Clark, Dead, Adam Kolbrenner, and Greg Goodman. It is not said if Cargill will pen the script, but he is the director’s filmmaking partner as he wrote Sinister, Doctor Strange, and The Black Phone.

No plot details are known about the Miles Teller and Scott Derrickson film. It will blend multiple genres to create an action-packed love story.

Miles Teller is in negotiations to join the Scott Derrickson film The Gorge

In the Deadline report, Miles Teller has taken a summer break after Top Gun: Maverick and Spiderhead. While reading scripts for his next project, Scott Derrickson was doing the same after his hit with The Black Phone with Ethan Hawke as the child killer The Grabber. Skydance needed the director to stay onboard, so an actor attached was the move. Since the success of Maverick with Skydance, and a few meetings later, the actor and director set themselves up for this to be the next project.

Top Gun: Maverick grossed over $1 billion, and it is still growing and breaking through milestones. The Black Phone became another example of how horror can make a profit with a low budget, as the film grossed over $150 million worldwide. Both can be watched on streaming, or if you can spot a theatrical showing, you might be able to catch either on the big screen.
