Will Mindhunter Return?
To all those waiting for an update on Mindhunter season 3, the news is bleak; the show is on indefinite hold. Since season 2 aired in August, there has been no update regarding the third season from Netflix. It now appears that the main cast has been released from their contracts, putting the future of the show in doubt.
Contracts Lapsing
Mindhunter stars Holt McCallany and Jonathan Groff as Bill Tench and Holden Ford, respectively. The pair of FBI agents, along with Anna Torv as psychologist Wendy Carr, are early pioneers of the Behavioural Science Unit. All three main cast members have had their contracts lapsed.
Not All Bad News
It’s not all doom and gloom, though. A report over at Deadline states that the Mindhunter isn’t necessarily canceled. David Fincher is currently working on a pet project Mank and is busy producing the second season of Love, Death, and Robots.
The reason for the contracts lapsing is to allow actors to look for new projects while Fincher is immersed in his own. A spokesperson from Netflix said, “He may revisit Mindhunter again in the future, but in the meantime felt it wasn’t fair to the actors to hold them from seeking other work while he was exploring new work of his own.”
Netflix’s Critical Darling
What is startling about Fincher only maybe returning is how popular Mindhunter has proven to be. It has been a success for both fans and critics alike, a rare case of unified agreement of the two camps. A glance at Rotten Tomatoes – a poor choice of metric but one we’ll use – shows season 2 scoring 98% with Critics. With the audience, it sits at 95%.
Yet while news of Mindhunter is foreboding, it’s always good to hear Love, Death and Robots is being focused on as a priority. The show – which aired in March last year and one we hoped would be a winner – offered some of the freshest and most interesting Sci-Fi tales seen on Television.
