The PlayStation 4 version of Minecraft will update tomorrow to the Bedrock version. This new update comes with several new features, and most importantly, cross-play support on all versions that support Bedrock.
While Sony had previously held firm about not allowing the PS4 of Minecraft to become playable with other versions, this new shift finally lets players craft together.
As more and more games continue to support cross-play, including Fortnite and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, it makes sense that one of the most popular games on the planet will finally bring Minecraft players together.
Minecraft Bedrock Updates Allows Crossplay with PS4, Xbox One, and More
Once the PS4 version updates to Bedrock, PS4 players can play with other Minecraft players on Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Windows 10, and mobile.
In addition, the Bedrock update also comes with the Minecraft Marketplace. This store makes it easier to buy new worlds, skins, and content packs, and those purchases are cross-platform.
To use the Minecraft Marketplace, you must purchase Minecoins in the in-game store. These coins can be redeemed for content made by the Minecraft community, and the coins follow you to any version of the game that supports Bedrock.
When Does the Bedrock Update Come Out?
Anyone that already owns the PS4 version of Minecraft will have to update the game to get access to the Bedrock version. The new update will become available to download starting tomorrow, December 10, around 8 a.m. PST.
What makes this particularly interesting is how it will most likely require signing into an Xbox Live account on your PlayStation 4, which will seem very sacrilegious to some players. However, as more and more games support the same technology, it will hopefully allow better gaming experiences bringing these gaming fronts together instead of separate.
