Markus “Notch” Persson created Minecraft. When rumors surfaced earlier this week about a Wii U version of Minecraft, fans took to Twitter to ask the developer whether or not it was true. According to Persson, he hasn’t heard anything about this rumor.

“I am not aware of any plans to release a Wii U version of Minecraft,” said Persson via Twitter.

While the Wii U does seem like a good fit for Minecraft, it seems that Markus Persson would know if the game he created would be made for a new console. For now, we’ll have to wait and see if a Wii U version ever does arrive.

The development studio responsible for the Minecraft ports has got their hands full. 4J Studios handles development of Minecraft on the Xbox and PlayStation platforms. Having just released Minecraft on the PlayStation 3, they are currently working on PS4, PS Vita, and Xbox One versions of the popular title.
