Originally slated to launch near the end of April, Minecraft Dungeons will instead hit digital shelves on May 26. The delay comes as no shock given the state of the COVID-19 outbreak. Still, the studio’s dedication to the game remains commendable.  The brand-new action-adventure title will be a transition for the development team at Mojang but is sure to provide hours of fun for new and returning Minecraft enthusiasts.

So What Is Minecraft Dungeons?

Set in the Minecraft universe we are all familiar with, Minecraft Dungeons is an upcoming title inspired by classic dungeon crawlers. Think Gauntlet or Diablo, but with Minecraft. This breath of fresh air will give fans of the beloved series their next quest for survival. As expected, players can embark on epic adventures either alone or in up to four-person co-op multiplayer. Dastardly foes and swarms of new enemies await players up for the challenge.

Combat will take place in real-time, and the game’s focal point will be inventory management. Your weapons and gear will quickly become your best friends. Unfortunately, there are no character classes in the game. Strength will come from within you, and your ability to manage items and enchantments will be the difference between life and death.

Where Can You Play?

Minecraft Dungeons will launch digitally on the PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, as well as PC. Each version of the game will launch simultaneously on May 26 and will feature both local multiplayer and online play. Party size will have a direct impact on the endeavors you will face. The game’s difficulty, number of enemies, and rewards will adapt accordingly. This on-the-fly system will result in a fresh, yet worthwhile, experience every time.

Mojang is regretful to announce that the game will not feature cross-platform play at launch. You will be able to play online with others using the same hardware. The studio is looking forward to eventually enabling cross-platform play through a free game update.

Let’s Talk Dollars

Minecraft Dungeons will not launch at a full $60.00 price point. The base game will instead sit at $19.99, while the Hero Edition will be priced at $29.99, respectively. The Hero Edition will feature several exclusive in-game items. The revealed items include a Hero Cape, a chicken pet, and two unique player skins. On top of that, the Hero Edition will guarantee buyers two upcoming DLC packs when available. Both versions of the game are already available for pre-order on some platforms. The rest should follow shortly. See here for details.

Xbox Game Pass Has The Hook Up

In addition to the aforementioned pre-orders and price points, Minecraft Dungeons’ base game will also be added to the Xbox Game Pass library. And yes, it will be available for download on both PC and Xbox One. As a bonus, all Xbox Game Pass members will receive up to 10% off related DLC purchases.

A Kickoff To Summer

With upcoming gaming release dates somewhat up in the air right now, this is a reassuring relief for gamers. We’ll have Final Fantasy 7 out in early April, and hopefully The Last of Us Part II and Ghosts of Tsushima soon after. Couple these sure to be juggernauts with a Minecraftian dungeon crawler, and gamers will be receiving an exceptional summer season. Digitally speaking, of course.
