Pumpkins have various uses in Minecraft. You can use them as decoration, in cooking, or composting while you are farming other crops. Additionally, you can carve pumpkins that you can use to create golems or even as a helmet. By the end of this guide, you will learn how to carve a pumpkin in Minecraft.

How to Carve a Pumpkin in Minecraft

To carve a pumpkin in Minecraft, you need to approach a pumpkin and use shears on it. You must place the pumpkin somewhere in your world if it has not naturally spawned. Depending on what platform you are on, the button to interact with the pumpkin will be different. For example, if you are on PC, you will need to right-click on the pumpkin with the shears in your hotbar. If you are on mobile, simply tap on the pumpkin. You can also place it back down in the world and attempt to carve it again if you accidentally break the pumpkin.

If you do not have a pumpkin, you can find them naturally generated in any biome that has grass blocks. They also spawn in farm rooms in woodland mansions and wool tents in pillager outposts. However, they have a very low chance of spawning in a chunk, so you may need to venture out a bit before you find one!

If you cannot locate a pumpkin in the overworld, you can find pumpkin seeds and grow a pumpkin to carve. Pumpkin seeds are found in dungeon, mineshaft, village and woodland mansion chests in both Minecraft Java and Bedrock Edition.

Once you get a carved pumpkin, you can use it to create a golem. You can make either a snow or iron golem. To make a snow golem, place two snow blocks on top of one another, then the carved pumpkin on top of the second snow block. To make an iron golem, place four iron blocks in a “T” shape, then place the carved pumpkin on top of the center iron block. Alternatively, you can use it to decorate your house during the Halloween season.
