Having light sources around has numerous benefits for you during your Minecraft adventures. Light helps prevent monsters from spawning, activates plant growth, and gives you better visibility during the night. Many blocks are used as decorative blocks and help emit light for you. The newest light-emitting block introduced in the Minecraft Bedrock beta 1.18.10.26 update is the froglight. By the end of this guide, you will learn how to get a froglight in Minecraft Bedrock and Java Editions.

How to Get a Froglight in Minecraft

Unfortunately, if you are playing Minecraft Java Edition, you cannot obtain froglights just yet. While froglights are currently available in the experimental version of Bedrock beta 1.18.10.26, they will be unavailable until Java Edition 1.19 is officially released. If you are playing Minecraft Bedrock Edition, you can obtain froglights through the experimental Wild Update released on January 5. However, you must first activate Experimental Features in your world settings to join the beta and access the new changes.

To obtain a froglight, you must lure a frog to a magma cube. The frog will eat the magma cube and drop a froglight. Frogs spawn in swamp biomes, while magma cubes are found in the Nether. Froglights emit a light level of 15, making them more effective than torches, end rods, furnaces, smokers, candles and glowing obsidian. It has the same light level as blocks like beacons, respawn anchors, campfires, sea lanterns, and shroomlights.

Depending on the variant of frog you use, the color of the froglight will vary. There are currently three types of lights to obtain. These three are Pearlescent, a pale purple light, Verdant, a green light, and Ochre, a yellow light. Likewise, three frog types are available for you to find and use to gather the lights. Tropical frogs allow you to find pearlescent lights, snowy frogs drop verdant froglights, and regular frogs drop the ochre light.
