Whether falling unexpectedly from a high place or suffering an explosion by a sneaky Creeper, Minecraft players are no stranger to meeting an untimely demise; however, the Totem of Undying can be a literal lifesaver in such unfortunate events. The Totem of Undying is a rare item that grants its holder a “second chance” from a situation that usually would result in death. To use the totem, players must equip it within their second or main hand, as it will not activate from solely being in the hotbar. How to Get a Totem of Undying in Minecraft

The only way to get a Totem of Undying in Minecraft is by slaying an Evoker, a formidable spell-casting Illager. Evokers are challenging mini-bosses that can be found in woodland mansions and during raids. They will spawn only from the fifth wave of a raid, meaning players will not encounter Evokers on Easy-difficulty raids.

To initiate a raid in Minecraft requires the Bad Omen status effect. This effect will start once a player kills the Patrol Leader of a Pillager Outpost or patrol unit, and players can easily recognize the leader by the Illager banner on its head. With Bad Omen activated, a raid will occur once players return to a village. As previously mentioned, Evokers will appear from Wave 5 of a raid. Slay the Evokers to acquire a Totem of Undying.

Alternatively, Minecraft players can get Totems of Undying by defeating Evokers within woodland mansions. While it is possible to stumble upon one randomly, a reliable method of determining a mansion’s location is purchasing a Woodland Explorer Map from a village Cartographer. This method will show the exact spot of the woodland mansion dungeon on a map.

Evokers will not go down easily and can quickly take down a player if unprepared. Minecraft players must make sure they have strong equipment and weaponry before battling these dangerous, hostile mobs.

Minecraft is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox One X|S, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Android, and iOS.
