One of Minecraft‘s greatest strengths is the universal freedom it provides through its tools for creativity, and one of the best examples of this freedom emanating into the real world is the Blockworks Library, also known as the Uncensored Library. The Blockworks Library is a massive project released in 2020 by Reporters without Borders, BlockWorks, DDB Berlin, and MediaMonks. Together, they built the library with the shared goal of circumventing governmental censorship to spread banned information about Mexico, Russia, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt. In other words, the Uncensored Library is a virtual safe haven in Minecraft for knowledge that would have otherwise been lost in these oppressed countries.

How to Enter the Uncensored Library in Minecraft

The Blockworks Library in Minecraft is a live server to which players can connect and a downloadable map. To get to the library, fans can download the map directly from the official site, or they can use a specific IP address to connect to the server via their in-game multiplayer menu.

To download the map, head to the address “https://www.uncensoredlibrary.com/en” or type “Minecraft Uncensored Library” into Google’s search engine. After opening the web page, scroll down to the sixth section, “Downloads,” and look for “Minecraft Map.” Push the download button to obtain the map’s file. Next, extract the file into the saves folder found in the player’s “.minecraft” folder. For those unfamiliar with this folder, it can be found by typing %appdata% into the Run Command console. Afterward, launch Minecraft, open the Worlds section from the main menu, and load into the map to enter the Blockworks Library.

Alternatively, Minecraft players can connect directly to the Uncensored Library if they prefer not to download the map file. However, there is one prerequisite regarding version requirements. The server was built on Minecraft Version 1.14.4. Therefore, players will need to downgrade their current version to access the server. This action can be done by opening the Java Client and selecting Installations. Choose 1.14.4 from the version drop-down menu and complete the process with Create. Next, launch Minecraft and enter the Multiplayer section. Choose “Direct Connect” and enter the IP Address “visit.uncensoredlibrary.com” to get to the Blockworks Library in Minecraft. As one would expect, the server’s privileges are only given to admins, designers, and other managers of the library. Therefore, if players wish to make changes or build in the world, they will need to download the library map instead.

Minecraft is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox One X|S, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Android, and iOS.
