Taming animals in Minecraft is a great way to have a companion alongside you on your adventures. Every animal has their own way of being tamed, ranging from using bones to tame wolves to putting an axolotl in a tropical fish bucket. How to Tame a Horse in Minecraft
Before you can tame horses, you have to find some first! Horses typically spawn in Plains and Savanna biomes in herds. You may find anywhere from two to six horses in a spot. If you encounter a village, you may also find stables containing a few horses.
To tame Minecraft horses in both Java and Bedrock Editions, you must repeatedly hop onto their backs until they stop knocking you away. To do this, interact with the horse, stay on its back for a few seconds, and wait for the horse’s reaction. While doing this, you can’t control how the horse moves. If you appear on the ground shortly after, gray smoke will appear around the horse, indicating that you must try again. When you succeed at taming the horse, red hearts will appear instead. You can also use this method on donkeys, mules and llamas. Unfortunately, this does not work on zombie horses.
If you’re having difficulty taming your horse, feed it some food! In particular, horses enjoy eating sugar, wheat, apples and carrots. By feeding them a few apples or carrots, you’ll have a much easier time taming the horse without getting knocked off. However, you do not have to do this, and it is only useful if you don’t want to sit around waiting. Once you tame your horse, you can equip it with horse armor or a saddle. Doing this allows you to ride the horse around with full control.
