Thinking of the recent Minecraft updates, very few have captivated my interests along with the community’s interests. The Village and Pillage update was good, but that wore off relatively quickly for casual players. The same goes for other recent updates. With today’s update though, we may finally have something that will show a lasting impact in the years to come. Mojang announces that Minecraft’s Nether Update is now available for Java edition and all versions of Bedrock Edition. Players can now download the update and hop into the completely revamped Nether realm. With the update, the team released an animated launch trailer.

As the name implies, the biggest change to Minecraft this update is the remake of the Nether. There are several new biomes available, each housing some of the new blocks and threats. The Crimson Forest is haunted by the new Piglin enemies, as well as the Hoglin beasts. Players will have to be careful traversing this biome but can expect a sea of red stretching far beyond. The Warped Forest is similar to the Crimson Forest, but sports a greenish-blue color scheme and has Endermen rather than Piglins. Following that is the Soulsand Valley, which offers Skeletons and Ghasts, fossils, and of course, Soulsand. Finally, there’s the Basalt Delta, filled with the new Basalt block and Magma Cubes. You can expect various structures to go along with these

Other than biomes, there’s of course the new Netherite set of gear. You’ll find very rare but useful Netherite out in the Nether, which can be crafted into Netherite ingots. Your next thought might be to make a tool or armor pattern out of them, but you’re wrong. Netherite requires you to combine it with a Diamond tool or armor to upgrade it. This new gear sports higher stats than Diamond, marking the first time in seven years that a new higher gear set was added to Minecraft. Make sure to use it wisely though, as it’s very scarce.

That’s not all though. There’s a myriad of new blocks, plants, mechanics, and gameplay additions added. We can’t go through them all here, but feel free to read the patch notes for full details. We’d love to hear your thoughts though. What do you think of today’s Minecraft update? Anything that stands out to you?
