Minecraft has been an extremely successful partnership between Mojang and Microsoft.  The game has been extremely popular on the Xbox Live Marketplace, and with its recent disc-based release, it’s proving to still be selling well.  According to Notch, the creator of the game, the recently released disc-based retail version was the best-selling game in its launch window.

“They’re telling me it’s currently the fastest selling console game in the U.S.,” says Notch.

Minecraft on Xbox 360 has been so successful that Microsoft recently announced that the game would arrive on their new console as well  Minecraft will arrive on Xbox One, but details are slim on how the game will take advantage of the hardware.  Though the company did vaguely say Minecraft on the Xbox One will offer players “larger maps for bigger adventures, expanded multiplayer features, and feature enhancements.”

Current Minecraft players on the Xbox 360 will need to purchase a new copy of the game, unfortunately.
