A new Minecraft update will finally bring together the worlds of Minecraft and Mario, with character skins and a total retexturing of the world. The update will be free to all players, however it will only be available for Minecraft: Wii U Edition, leaving those on other platforms without the Mario goodness.

From the short video released by Nintendo and 4J Studios it looks like the Minecraft Super Mario Mash-Up Pack will include skins such as Mario, Luigi, Wario, Toad, Peach, Birdo, Shy Guy, and many more. Along with this comes a total reworking of the world, making it look and sound more like the Mushroom Kingdom. The sun now looks like the one from Mario Sunshine, and every block and item has been retextured to fit with the world of Super Mario.

While the other consoles aren’t getting this particular pack, they are still getting some attention this week, at least on Xbox. Minecraft on Xbox 360 and Xbox One will be getting the fourth birthday skin pack, celebrating the fourth anniversary of the release of the game on the platform. The first three birthday skin packs will also be available for a limited time.

The Minecraft Super Mario Mash-Up Pack will hit on May 18th via a free update.
