Since the release of the memoir I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy, Miranda Cosgrove has reacted to the allegations toward Dan Schneider, the creator of iCarly, who McCurdy claims the creator was exploitative and abusive on set. A recent New York Times article explores what happened on the set of the show, and the leading star gives her perspective.
At the time, Miranda Cosgrove saw nothing wrong with Jennette McCurdy. Her humor on set made Cosgrove not think that anything was happening behind the scenes with her costar. Being young also affected her outlook as she felt that time in life makes people inside their “own head.”

Paramount+ rebooted iCarly with Miranda Cosgrove, but Jennette McCurdy was not interested in the series as she quit acting. In an interview with Bustle, Cosgrove still reached out to see if her old friend would return. The series did see returning stars from the original series with Jerry Trainor and Nathan Kress. Sam Puckett, Carly’s best friend from the original series who McCurdy played, has been mentioned throughout the rebooted, modernized version of the series that continues Carly’s online presence.
Recently, Jennette McCurdy has been vocal about her time on the Nickelodeon series. She had detailed being offered alcohol by “The Creator.” Another instance involved being pressured to be photographed in a bikini, despite being underaged. The book focuses on those who exploited her, her mom’s lack of support, and even details how the studio handled it. The former actress said Nickelodeon offered $300,000 of “hush money,” which she did not take.
