In MLB The Show 22’s Diamond Dynasty, not every card is created equal. Even if two cards have the same OVR, that doesn’t mean that both are comparable. One could be an offensive machine, while another could be a well-rounded item. It can be tough to find the right cards, but we can help with that. Now that MLB The Show 22 has been out for some time, we have had time to evaluate Diamond Dynasty cards, and the meta game as a whole.

So, which cards should you target? Let’s take a look at our list of the best cards in Diamond Dynasty.

C

Here’s a look at our picks for the best catchers in MLB The Show 22:

  • 99 OVR Retro Finest Mike Piazza99 OVR Finest Adley Rutschman99 OVR Face of the Franchise Jorge Posada99 OVR Finest Sean Murphy99 OVR Home Run Derby Geovany Soto99 OVR Retro Finest Joe Torre

Our pick for the best catcher is Mike Piazza, obtainable via the Ranked Seasons reward path. Piazza doesn’t have the best defensive stats, at least compared to others on this like Finest Adley Rutschman. The Dodgers and Mets legend does, however, have arguably the best hitting stats. Both Contact vs. RHP and LHP are maxed out, and Piazza has incredible Vision and Power.

On the other hand, Rutschman and Posada are both switch hitters who have great hitting stats. Or, you could use 99 OVR Jimmie Foxx, an infielder who does have catcher as a secondary position.

Infielders

Now, let’s take a look at the best infielders in MLB The Show 22, starting with first base.

1B

  • 99 OVR Milestone Albert Pujols99 OVR Takashi Okazaki Jimmie Foxx99 OVR Finest Pete Alonso99 OVR Finest Paul Goldschmidt99 OVR Finest Joey Meneses98 OVR Finest Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

2B

  • 99 OVR 2021 Finest Jorge Polanco99 OVR Retro Finest Brian Roberts99 OVR Retro Finest Chase Utley99 OVR Finest Jose Altuve99 OVR Retro Finest Robinson Cano99 OVR All-Star Jackie Robinson

3B

  • 99 OVR Finest Jose Ramirez99 OVR Finest Manny Machado99 OVR Retro Finest Eddie Mathews99 OVR Retro Finest Miguel Cabrera99 OVR Retro Finest George Brett99 OVR Awards Chipper Jones

SS

  • 99 OVR Postseason Corey Seager99 OVR Finest Xander Bogaerts99 OVR Retro Finest Barry Larkin99 OVR Finest Bobby Witt Jr.99 OVR Prime Ernie Banks99 OVR Retro Finest Jimmy Rollins

The past two months of content has shaken up the meta in a major way. Yes, some cards like Prime Ernie Banks and Retro Finest George Brett are still more than usable. There are, however, some new additions.

The free Milestone Albert Pujols is a force, as is the 99 OVR Jimmie Foxx. 2021 Finest Jorge Polanco is back, bringing back one of the more “glitchy” hitters in MLB The Show 22. And if you can grind in the Battle Royale program, 99 OVR Postseason Corey Seager is back and worth a look.

Outfielders

Let’s move on the top outfielders, starting with the best left fielders:

LF

  • 99 OVR Retro Finest Luis Gonzalez99 OVR Postseason Eddie Rosario99 OVR Home Run Derby Jonny Gomes99 OVR Postseason Kyle Schwarber99 OVR Postseason Yordan Alvarez99 OVR All-Star Giancarlo Stanton

CF

  • 99 OVR Retro Finest Mickey Mantle99 OVR Finest Mike Trout99 OVR Takashi Okazaki Ken Griffey Jr.99 OVR Retro Finest Andrew McCutchen99 OVR Finest Bryan Reynolds99 OVR Finest Julio Rodriguez

RF

  • 99 OVR Takashi Okazaki Babe Ruth99 OVR Retro Finest Stan Musial99 OVR Milestone Cody Bellinger99 OVR Postseason Bryce Harper99 OVR Home Run Derby Nick Swisher99 OVR Retro Finest Vladimir Guerrero

Here’s where things get very difficult. The past few months have seen many amazing outfielders that have been added into Diamond Dynasty. It’s hard to pick the best for each position, especially at right field. We couldn’t even find space for 2021 Finest Kyle Tucker and Finest Hunter Renfroe, both of whom are formidable cards. We did, though, go with Ruth and Musial as our top two options. Both have an incredible mix of Contact, Power, and Vision attributes. If you’re comfortable with players who have lower Vision, you might want to opt for the likes of 99 OVR Bellinger and 99 OVR Harper.

The left and center field positions were not as close, but still somewhat tough to construct a top six power ranking list for each. Retro Finest Luis Gonzalez stands out among left fielders, while 99 OVR Mickey Mantle might be the best overall card in the game. There are, though, plenty of options outside of those two.

Pitchers

SP

Let’s move on to the pitchers. Here’s a look at our picks for best starting pitchers:

  • 99 OVR Milestone Randy Johnson99 OVR Milestone Roy Halladay99 OVR Finest Jacob deGrom99 OVR Finest Corbin Burnes99 OVR Milestone Tom Seaver99 OVR 2021 Finest Walker Buehler99 OVR Finest Sandy Alcantara99 OVR Finest Dylan Cease99 OVR Finest Nestor Cortes Jr.99 OVR Retro Finest Greg Maddux99 OVR Face of the Franchise A.J. Burnett

RP

And for the relievers:

  • 99 OVR Retro Finest Mariano Rivera99 OVR Takashi Okazaki Billy Wagner99 OVR Postseason Josh Hader99 OVR 2020 Finest Devin Williams99 OVR Retro Finest Trevor Hoffman99 OVR Finest Jhoan Duran99 OVR Retro Finest Goose Gossage99 OVR Retro Finest Aroldis Chapman99 OVR Retro Finest Bruce Sutter99 OVR 2020 Finest Liam Hendriks98 OVR POTM Camilo Doval

Thanks to the past two months of content, both the starting and relief pitching lists have been overhauled. New Milestone Randy Johnson takes the top SP spot, and for good reason. Randy’s 99 OVR Signature card was good for most of the year, but this new card keeps his power pitch arsenal, while also giving “The Big Unit” maxed out H/9 and K/9.

As far as the reliever market goes, another Ranked Season card is on top. Mariano Rivera has his signature cutter, alongside a sinker and maxed out H/9. Other new relievers like 2020 Finest Devin Williams and Finest Jhoan Duran have to be on your radar, as well.

Note: This list is as of November 2022.
