The PlayStation has had a stranglehold on the baseball video game market for years with MLB The Show. That stranglehold could be coming to an end in the very near future.

Sony announced a new agreement with Major League Baseball on Tuesday night. That agreement is certainly lucrative for Sony. It turns out, and it could be profitable for Microsoft and Nintendo as well. Google could stand to benefit, as well.

As part of the new agreement, Sony has said it plans on bringing MLB The Show to other platforms. It added it could be doing that as soon as 2021.

Keeping MLB The Show going is undoubtedly good news for baseball video game fans. The franchise has been going strong for years.

It’s the only franchise left standing. MLB has tried to enter the market in the last few years by revamping the RBI baseball legacy. Those endeavors haven’t gone as well as the league had hoped.

With the impending arrival on other platforms, it would appear MLB The Show is about to become the only game in town unless you want to go with a game that relies more on crazy happenings and less realism.

Which consoles MLB The Show is coming to is still unknown. It’s not out of the realm of possibility it could come to all of them.

Xbox’s Phil Spencer seems to understand the potential. Shortly after the news went public, he tweeted out his congratulations with “great to see the game coming to more players.”

It seems like a no-brainer; the game will be coming to the Xbox Scarlett. Nintendo seems to like the idea of it coming to the Switch as well.

That official Twitter account retweeted Sony’s release. The Google Stadia hasn’t jumped on the MLB The Show train yet, but being able to play it “anywhere” would undoubtedly be an attractive option.
