MLB The Show has quietly been one of Sony’s strongest exclusives. The yearly baseball sim has consistently been among the best representations of a sport around, with some of the best graphics and refined gameplay mechanics, but because it’s only been available on PlayStation platforms, it only can sell so much. Now though, that might be about to change, if a certain cover leak is to be believed. Xbox fans might finally get the chance to play the first proper simulation baseball game on the platform since MLB 2K13, which is even more surprising given that the developers who make MLB The Show, Sony Sany Diego, are, as the name suggests, a Sony-owned studio, who tend to be a little more protective of their IPs then their green counterparts.

The covers, leaked by Instagram user anerdydad, depict both a PlayStation 5 and an Xbox One version. Given the policy that Microsoft has adopted with forwards compatibility, we can near-certainly assume that Xbox Series X/S support is a given. Again, that is assuming that this leak is even real in the first place. Furthermore, the cover star for 2021’s edition of the premier baseball sim according to this new leak is Fernando Tatis Jr, the San Diego Padres player who came fourth in this years MLB National League MVP Award, as the Padres clinched second overall in the National League, before losing out to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Division Series.

Whether the leak will turn out to be true should be answered before long. It’s worth mentioning that we’ve been in this position before, and that there’s likely more chance that the cover art is true and the release on Xbox is a falsehood than the other way around, but we should hear more from Sony San Diego in the month of February.
