Now that her lawsuit with Netflix is settled, Mo’Nique will be shooting her comedy stand-up special with the streaming service. The lawsuit accused the streaming service of racial and gender bias. Mo’Nique’s problems with Netflix started when they offered the Oscar-winner $500,000 for a comedy stand-up special, but she turned it down because it was a “low-ball offer.” She filed the suit after accusing the streamer of a “blacklisting act of retaliation.” The suit cited other comedians such as Amy Schumer, Ricky Gervais, and Dave Chappelle, who were paid millions for their specials. A federal judge denied Netflix’s motion to dismiss the suit. Her lawsuit was settled last month. However, Netflix has made it known that they are working with Mo’Nique again for her first special with them. The special will be filmed later this year in Atlanta, Georgia.

Now that the Lawsuit is Settled, the Comedian Announced Her Upcoming Project
On top of promoting her Netflix stand-up comedy special, Mo’Nique announced her upcoming project with Director Lee Daniels. The film she’s working on with Daniels is called The Deliverance. Despite the details of the settled lawsuit not being public, it speaks volumes that the comedian is still doing a special with Netflix. The actor has shown she doesn’t settle for less when it comes to her career. Mo’Nique has done stand-up for decades now and is a household name in film and television. She has performed stand-up for Showtime at the Apollo, Russell Simmons’ Def Comedy Jam, and Thank God You’re Here. There is neither a title nor a release date for her Netflix stand-up comedy special. She has been in the films Interwoven, Bessie, and Almost Christmas. She has had sporadic television appearances and has been slowly working more in comedy again.
Since the lawsuit is settled with Netflix, Mo’Nique may be getting paid more to her liking.
