Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is no stranger to grind. To be able to unlock all Attachments and Camos, you’ll need to level up all 51 Weapon Platforms and Receivers to level 20. It will take a while if you don’t know where to start to grind XP, so here are eight ways that you should try if you want to quickly level up your weapons in COD: Modern Warfare 2.

1. Don’t Forget Your Double XP Tokens

Using XP Tokens and Weapon XP Tokens is obviously your best bet to quickly level up both your Military Rank and weapon XP in COD: Modern Warfare 2. Make sure to use it at the moment you start grinding some farmable game Modes since their use is limited (although you can get more from Challenges). Owners of the $100 Vault Edition should be able to redeem 10 hours of double XP and Weapon Experience Tokens, giving them a good headstart.

2. Complete All Available Daily Challenges

Daily Challenges are a good way to grind weapon XP in COD: Modern Warfare 2 since they aren’t that tough. Usually, it’s something like killing a number of enemies, getting a number of headshots, etcetera. They dish out 2,500 XP per Challenge, and there are three Challenges you can complete per day. There’s also the Bonus Challenge that rewards you with 10,000 XP after you’ve completed all three standard Dailies.

Keep in mind that the Daily and Bonus Challenges for the PvP mode and the co-op Spec Ops mode are separated, so in total, there are six Dailies and two Bonuses that you can do every day.

3. Focus on One or Two Guns First

In the base game alone, there are 51 different weapons that you can unlock. So I suggest you do not waste time trying to level them all up in one go. Make a Class with your favorite weapon (or a weapon that you need to unlock a weapon you actually want), then stick with it for a while; something that works well as an all-rounder or reliable Overkill secondaries like Lachmann Sub or Fennec 45 is a decent option to grind first.

Then afterward, you might want to make Loadouts for specific map types. As an example, for an open map like Taraq, you might want a Kastov 762 Assault Rifle or Signal 50 Sniper Rifle-based Loadout. While you can grind Shotgun or Submachine Gun in smaller maps like Sariff Bay.

4. Invasion Mode Tips #1 – Farm the Bots

Aside from being efficient with your Loadouts, you have to also be efficient with your playtime. When you want to grind XP so you can quickly level up your weapon, then you have to play the “proper” game modes in COD: Modern Warfare 2.

Popular COD YouTuber JGOD recommends the new Ground War: Invasion Mode, where players fought on a huge, open map along with bots. As you can expect, these AI bots are easy targets, and thankfully, killing them will also net you XP. However, the longer the Invasion match goes, the tougher the bots become; they’ll eventually be armed to the teeth with heavy armor and weapons.

For that reason, you’ll want to farm the Invasion bots in the early game. Then sneak around the outskirts of the map to look for where the helicopter drops the AI bots while avoiding real players. If it’s possible, also use a Class Loadout with a gun you want to grind combined with Tactical Insertion and Munitions Box to make farming them much faster.

5. Invasion Mode Tips #2 – Use the Suppression Mine Glitch

As seen in the Twitter clip above, Reddit user u/darkname324 (via @MWCODHub) has found a pretty interesting glitch for farming weapon XP fast while playing Invasion Mode. All you need to do is equip a Suppression Mine Field Upgrade, then set it on top of an enemy tank. A bot that’s driving it will be stuck inside and constantly suppressed, giving you around 100 XP per second!

There are two problems surrounding this glitch, though. One, it’s easier said than done. Sneaking around the map and climbing on top of a tank is no cakewalk; you’ll probably already be drowned in a sea of lead before even finding one. And second, since this is an exploitable glitch, there’s a huge chance that Activision will fix this in the next patch or update. At that point, they can also reset your weapon XP making the whole ordeal ended up being a waste of time.

6. Acquire Ground Superiority in Standard Ground War Mode

Talking about Invasion, the standard Ground War can also be a good source of XP. Equip the weapon you want to grind, hop in a tank, and then start demolishing enemies and capturing objectives. You can easily choose where to respawn in Ground War mode, too, so you might be able to quickly get in another tank even after you die.

7. Grind XP Through Kill Confirmed Mode

Usually, Objective-based modes give additional XP when you secure an objective. Kill Confirmed, which is basically Team Deathmatch combined with scoring from grabbing Dogtags, have the fastest respawn time compared to other Objective Modes. You should be able to farm weapon XP quickly from each kill and assist as well as secure or deny Dogtags.

8. Hardpoint Gives More Points

Last but not least, another Objective Mode that you should try is Hardpoint. Every 60 seconds, a “hardpoint” area will show up on the map, and staying in the area will give your team points. Try locating chokepoints in order to farm some kills while securing the hardpoint. And if the area keeps being contested, the timer will stop, giving you ample opportunity to rack in more kills.
