The Steam family sharing feature has been removed from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. This action comes after Activision removed a number of attributes due to a bug. Players of Call of Duty: WWII are now enraged by the sudden and unexplained deactivation of the family-sharing feature.

The Frustrating CoD: Modern Warfare 2 Feature Removal

Steam’s family-sharing features enable players on the same console to share game features while using separate accounts. This option, however, does not allow any two linked accounts to play the same game at the same time. Regardless, this is one console characteristic that allows players to enjoy their games to the maximum without spending much on in-game purchases.

Unfortunately, MW2 players on Steam won’t be able to enjoy this feature anymore. To make matters worse, there has been no communication nor explanation regarding this sudden change. Until now, both Activision and Infinity Ward have yet to provide any updates on the change.

Without official communication, the CoD community can only speculate the reasons for such removal. At the time, rumors surfaced claiming that the feature deactivation was intentional. Players allege that the developers planned to deactivate the option shortly after the players lost their ability to claim a refund for the game.

Generally, for one to return and receive the purchase amount of a game, you must not have played the game for two hours or more before any changes. As a result, Modern Warfare 2 players on Steam feel like it was a tactical move.

On the other hand, Steam says that not all games can have a family-sharing option. To have this feature, games must meet Steam’s technical requirements. Furthermore, games containing third-party keys, accounts, or subscriptions are not eligible. As a result, CoD: Modern Warfare 2 is unsuitable for this setting.

Regardless, CoD: Modern Warfare 2 players are unhappy about this silent removal and asking Activision to reinstate the feature. Given that family-sharing mode is still available on other consoles, what would be your reasoning for removing it from Steam?
