During PlayStation’s latest State of Play, Activision and Infinity Ward released a new trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare that detailed more of the characters and story in the single-player campaign. Towards the end of the trailer, we were given a small glimpse of survival within the Spec-Ops mode for Modern Warfare. The downside is… the Survival Mode inside Spec-Ops is exclusive to the PS4 for a whole year. So Xbox One and PC players can survival in October 2020, just in time for the next Call of Duty.

Exclusivity is nothing new for Activision and the Call of Duty franchise. For the past few years, PlayStation had early access to multiplayer content such as maps. This was typically upwards of a month, but with Black Ops 4, it was only a week. And also prior to that, Xbox had the exclusive rights to new content. New content has not been available on all platforms on the same day since Call of Duty: World at War, which released in 2008.

Survival mode was a popular game mode that featured in Modern Warfare 3 and also appeared in Sledgehammer’s Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. It is a round-based game mode where A.I enemies get greater in difficulty by each round, and tougher enemies such as a juggernaut, which is confirmed in Modern Warfare, will also appear. Many people believe that the mode was inspired by Treyarch’s popular zombie game mode.

The Spec-Ops missions will be available for all platforms on day one for Modern Warfare. It is described by the devs as a continuation from the single-player campaign where players can tackle missions in co-op. At this stage, not much more is known about the mode at this time.
