Capturing monsters has been a mechanic in the Monster Hunter series for quite some time. It goes without saying that players can do the same in Monster Hunter Rise. However, anyone that goes in without preparation or know-how will have a hard time completing the task.  So, here are some tips on how to easily capture monsters in Monster Hunter Rise.

How to Capture Monsters

The first thing you are going to want to do when going to capture a monster is to bring all the traps and tranq bombs you can before you even start the fight. Whether they be Shock Traps or Pitfall Traps, you should make sure you are stocked up just in case something goes awry. The same can be said for the Tranquilizer Bombs as well. Each of these items is critical in capturing your monster.

However, you won’t be able to catch the monster right off the bat. You are going to have to deal enough damage to it so that it is weakened. You will know when you have done enough when the ‘eye-con’ on the map turns blue. This is an indication that the monster’s health is low enough for you to begin placing traps. By this point, the monster should either be limping or showing some other signs of weakness.

At this point, you will need to place a trap down. The Pitfall Trap will create a large pit for the monster to fall into while the Shock Trap will electrocute the monster in place. Either trap should be sufficient; You just need to place it down and then guide it into the trap.

Once your trap has been activated, quickly switch to the Tranq Bombs and lob a couple at the monster.  The monster will pass out and you will have successfully captured your monster. Now for the question: is capturing a monster better than slaying it? Generally speaking, the answer is yes. More than likely, you will get more loot from the quest if you are to capture the monster.  However, you should check your Physiology section in your journal for specifics on each monster. One monster might be worth killing while another would be worth more if you captured it.
