How to Beat Rathalos in Monster Hunter Rise
You’ll find, as you start your battle with Rathalos, that he is a flying creature, and spends a decent amount of time in the air, which can make this fight extremely difficult for hunters that use melee attacks. The best way to combat this is to time Rathalos’ landings just right and attack while he is on the ground. However, Rathalos is very quick for such a large monster, so pay close attention to his movements and location at all times.
Ranges attacks are your best bet in this fight, as you can deal damage from a distance and avoid being attacked as often. However, Rathalos can still make a quick maneuver to land in front of you and deal some heavy damage, so be wary. The best plan of action is to get above Rathalos somehow. Most of Rathalos’ attacks are based on you being on the ground, so if you remove yourself from that position, it’s harder for the attacks to land on you.
Note: If you focus on Rathalos’ tail and attack it enough times, you can cut it off for an extra carve opportunity.
Keeping note of Rathalos’ weaknesses can easily differentiate between a successful fight and a failure. The best way to take on Rathalos is with Dragon weapons, which are extra effective on his head and wings. However, as Dragon weapons aren’t the easiest to come by, you can also use Thunder weapons. Be sure to use Thunderblight as often as possible, as for some reason, Rathalos is fairly weak to it, and it lasts quite a while.
