The Sunbreak expansion of Monster Hunter Rise opens up new gameplay features for newcomers and long-time fans of the series, including the long-awaited Augment system called Qurious Crafting. Here are all the basics you need to know regarding how the new Augment or Qurious Weapon and Armor Crafting system works in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak.

Qurious Crafting in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak

Simply put, Qurious Crafting is the Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak‘s equivalent of the Augment feature of Iceborne. But this time around, you’re not only Augmenting your weapons but also your armor sets as well. You’ll unlock this feature after you beat the main story’s boss of Sunbreak, Gaismagorm, and opened the Anomaly Quest option at Master Rank level 6.

After beating your first Afflicted monster in the Anomaly Quest, you should gain an Afflicted Material. Speak with Minayle the Blacksmith to open the Qurious Weapon and Armor Crafting option. And this is where the fun (read: grinds) begins.

Qurious Weapon Crafting

As mentioned above, the Augment system comes back in Sunbreak through the Qurious Crafting system, which replaces the Rampage Weapon feature from base Rise. Through this menu and using specific Afflicted materials, you can boost a Rarity 10 weapons‘:

  • Attack
  • Affinity
  • Sharpness
  • and upgrade the Rampage Slot level

Each upgrade will eat up two or three Augment/Anomaly Slots, and you can unlock up to five Slots in total. Below is the list of all Afflicted Materials and their corresponding Anomaly Investigation levels.

Qurious Armor Crafting

Meanwhile, the Armor Augment system works slightly differently. Qurious Armor Crafting feature uses Afflicted Materials and Amber Essences to both buff the Defense point of the armor piece you want (and give additional Elemental Defense buff/nerf as well) and add an additional random Armor Skill. And although you can cancel the Qurious Crafting result, the consumed materials and money won’t be given back. So you’ll need to savescum to make the best use of this feature.

These Amber Essences can only be obtained through Anomaly Investigation Quests as well as the Anomaly Research Lab, which you can access by speaking with Bahari, the Scientist. More Afflicted materials and Qurious Crafting items will be unlocked further as you increase the Anomaly Investigation Quests levels. You can read more details about it in our Anomaly Investigations guide.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is available on PC and Nintendo Switch.
