After a bit of delay, Dreadking Rathalos from Monster Hunter Generations comes to Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin with the 1.4.1 Title Update. Following Molten Tigrex’s release in the 1.4.0 update, this will be the last Deviant to be added into the game. Let’s take a look at how you can obtain yourself a Dreadking Rathalos as a Monstie in Monster Hunter Stories 2.

Monster Hunter Stories 2 – How To Get Dreadking Rathalos

1. From the ★8: King Among Kings Subquest

You can get Dreadking Rathalos by doing the “★8: King Among Kings” Subquest from the Quest Board, where you will be directed to a Quest Den in Hakolo Island. There you have to slay a Dreadking Rathalos to finish the quest. And in the den, you can find its eggs as well.

2. Find the Eggs in Rare Dens

Several Reddit users have said that after completing the “★8: King Among Kings” Subquest, you can find Dreadking Rathalos in regular Rare Dens in Hakolo Island. Apparently, you can grab the eggs from Low-Rank dens too, but I assume it will have a lower percentage to show up since Dreadking is a High-Rank monster.

Dreadking Rathalos itself is a Power-type monster that is weak against Dragon element attacks, and these are the best weapon types you can use to break each body part of the emperor of Rathalos (Rathaloses? Rathali?):

  • Head: Slash
  • Wings: Slash
  • Stomach: Blunt
  • Tail: Slash

For more details about its weakness, you can head over to our Monsters Weaknesses list guide. Once you beat it, you will get the materials to let you craft the Dreadking Armor+, containing Heroics (XL), Critical (L), and All-Out (L). If you need more materials, the “★9 (Slay) Dreadking Rathalos” Quest and “★8 King Among Kings” Subquest are available as well. Meanwhile, as a Monstie, Dreadking Rathalos have unique skills called:

  • Explosive Breath – Inferno Breath Gene (M), Level 1: Power type. Deals heavy Fire damage to one enemy. Medium chance to inflict Blastblight.
  • Ignition Kick – Explosion Gene (XL), Level 40: Speed type. Deals heavy Fire damage to one enemy. Instantly inflict Blastblight.

And that’s it, good luck on your hunts and ransacking monsters’ nests! Don’t forget to check our other guides on Fortnite, Genshin Impact, New World, and others. Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is now available on Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam.
