Today at the TGS 2021 Monster Hunter Spotlight stream, Capcom dropped more teasers about Monster Hunter Rise expansion, Sunbreak, starting with the name of the Dracula-looking Elder Dragon, Malzeno. However, that’s all the info the team dropped regarding Monster Hunter: Sunbreak‘s flagship monster.

Along with Malzeno, the returning monster from the older games to Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is Shogun Ceanataur. Debuted in Monster Hunter Dos (or Freedom 2 for anywhere outside Japan), it is a humongous crab-like Carapaceon creature that uses other monster’s skulls as its home. It is also armed with extremely sharp folding claws and it can shoot pressurized water jet from its mouth. A tough monster to crack if you’re not using explosives or blunt weapons. The TGS 2021 Monster Hunter: Sunbreak stream also announced a specific release date for the Monster Hunter Rise base game PC port, which will be launched on January 12, 2022, with a demo to come out this October 13. Meanwhile, over on the Monster Hunter official site and Capcom-Unity blog, the company has confirmed that the expansion will launch simultaneously for PC and Switch in summer 2022.

You will be able to access Sunbreak content after completing the “7★ Hub Quest: Serpent Goddess of Thunder”, where you fight against weakened Ibushi, then the Allmother Narwa, and finish the main quest lines.

On one hand, it’s a shame that the returning monster isn’t Zamtrios, Agnaktor, or Tetsucabra since there are already hints of them in the base game. But on the other hand, several fans seem to have seen this coming since Shogun Ceanataur already has a “beefed-up version” in the form of Rustrazor Ceanataur Deviant from Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate and lots of people are assuming Rise‘s Apexes are just reskinned Generations Ultimate‘s Deviants. It’s still nice to get non-Flying Wyvern or Brute Wyvern monsters, anyway.
