Monster Hunter: World’s success continues to grow. The game has shipped 7.5 million copies and become the fastest-selling game in Capcom’s history, the publisher announced today.
That means that it has out-sold any entry in hugely popular series like Resident Evil, Mega Man, Devil May Cry, and more. In total, the Monster Hunter series has now sold over 48 million copies since its debut 14 years ago.
There’s a slight discrepancy between copies shipped and copies sold. Capcom said the game has seven million players compared to the 7.5 million copies shipped, but that’s still a pretty good number all around.
What’s impressive still is that the game is only available on PS4 and Xbox One right now, with a PC release due some time in the fall, so the sales and shipment numbers will grow even further as 2018 progresses.
Capcom said that some of the game’s success was due to how it “was given an ambitious worldwide promotional campaign in order to further build upon its fan base both in Japan and in markets overseas.”
As a result, Capcom said, “Monster Hunter: World has overcome both linguistic and cultural barriers.”
