Retro gamers rejoice as Monster Rancher 2 (or Monster Farm 2 in Japan) is coming to smartphones and Nintendo Switch this fall. As we stalked the official Monster Farm Twitter account, we saw the training assistant of IMA (International Training Association) Colt. A familiar face that brings in a lot of memories from the Monster Rancher series from PlayStation 1. Let us add the nostalgia of manually changing CDs just to get that perfect monster.

According to the game’s iOS description, Monster Rancher 2 will have around 400 monsters available in the game. The question is, how can you summon monsters now using your smartphone or Switch?

On the game’s official Twitter account, they are still gathering ideas as to what monster will be born from songs registered. Here at The Nerd Stash, we tested the game’s official #このCDから生まれてほしいモンスター (#What monster you want to be born in this CD) website.

Trying the artist name Linkin Park in Katakana, it was recognized and gave us a number of options. Upon choosing Hybrid Theory, you will get to choose the monster’s race and its type. For this demo, we chosee Durahan as its race and Metal Glory as its type. As soon as you hit Register, you will go to the next page and the artist name and CD name are now registered.

The original game components and features remain the same such as raising and training your monster. But since players now have the ability to connect to the internet, an Official Tournament is in the works.

Monster Rancher 2 or Monster Farm 2 is currently on pre-order at JPY 2,820 or around $27. Its expected release date is on September 17, 2020. Sadly, the game is currently and only available in the Japan App Store and PlayStore.
