The Nerd Stash is disheartened to announce that Terry Jones, a co-founder of the influential comedy group Monty Python, has passed away.

According to IGN, Terry Jones died with his wife, Anna Soderstrom, at his side on January 21, 2020, at the age of 77. Jones had been struggling since 2016 with a rare form of dementia called FTD. Eventually, this disease is the one that has claimed his life.

The family has asked that their privacy be respected while they grieve the loss of a husband, a father, and a source of joy for them all.

Terry Jones was a co-founder of Monty Python Flying Circus, which was formed in 1969. The sketch show proved groundbreaking for not just British comedy, but comedy as a whole. Around 1975, Monty Python then transitioned to the big screen. Terry Jones directed many of their films, including Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Life of Brian, and The Meaning of Life.

Terry Jones has been recognized for his enormous achievements. He received a Lifetime Achievement award at the BAFTA Cymru Awards for his contribution to both film and television in 2016.

Many grieve this incredible talent’s passing, especially members of Monty Python. John Cleese posted this on Twitter:

Just heard about Terry J

It feels strange that a man of so many talents and such endless enthusiasm, should have faded so gently away…

Of his many achievements, for me the greatest gift he gave us all was his direction of ‘Life of Brian’. Perfection

Two down, four to go

Terry Gilliam, who co-directed Monty Python and the Holy Grail with Jones, writes:

HE WAS A VERY NAUGHTY BOY!!…and we miss you.Terry was someone totally consumed with life.. a brilliant, constantly questioning, iconoclastic, righteously argumentative and angry but outrageously funny and generous and kind human being…1/2 pic.twitter.com/2945mp6JYQ

Goodbye, Terry Jones. You have left behind a legacy of laughter and happiness. The world will always be finding joy in your monumental work. The Nerd Stash sends their condolences to Jones’ family.

Terry Jones was sadly not the only talent to have passed away this week. Brice Armstrong from Dragon Ball has also left behind an enriching legacy.

If you are looking for a laugh, as Terry Jones always was, Bojack Horseman is nearing the premiere of its final season.
