Moon Knight is a globetrotting action-adventure series featuring a vigilante by the name of Marc Spector that was first teased at Marvel’s Disney+ Day event held back in November of 2021. Played by award-winning actor Oscar Isacc, Spector is a complex individual and former Marine and CIA Operative who suffers from a dissociative identity disorder.
Upon unearthing the sealed Khonshu, the Moon God in Egyptian mythology in an ancient Egyptian tomb, he becomes the ‘Moon Knight’ and gains the ability to switch between the multi-faceted aspects of Khonshu that exist across Egyptian culture. The multiple identities who live inside him find themselves thrust into a deadly war of the gods against the backdrop of both modern and ancient Egypt as Spector struggles with both his identity and his destiny.
The Moon Knight preview trailer also provided a first look at the villain character played by Ethan Hawke, who was said to be inspired by serial killer David Koresh. It is also being written and developed by head writer Jeremy Slater of The Umbrella Academy fame, and the episodes will be directed by Egyptian filmmaker Mohamed Diab and Synchronic duo Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead.
In addition to being the lead of the series, Isaac is also serving as an executive producer and has gone on in the past to discuss that this is by far the most challenging role he’s ever done. The series will also star Gaspard Ulliel, best known for portraying young Hannibal Lecter in Hannibal Rising, and May Calamawy, best known for her role in the Hulu series Remy.
