Our first look into the new visuals behind the Netflix & Kevin Smith revival of the ever-iconic He-Man and the Masters of the Universe was released today. Stills from the aptly named Masters of the Universe: Revelations give us a peek into how the modern reincarnations of past heroes and villains will look in the upcoming release and it definitely seems like many have had great facelifts following their 30+ year hiatus. Of course, we get the chance to see iconic leads such as Skeletor, Evil-Lyn, and Teela, but even more ancillary characters such as Orko have had some serious upgrades in style.

Along with images, we have also received a release date for the first part of the two-part series – July 23. The first release will consist of five episodes picking up right where the original Masters of the Universe left off back in 1985. It even sounds like we will be getting expanded character development and deeper emotional backstories in the new release with Smith stating:

The reboot sounds like a heartfelt tribune to fans of the original show and their interest in finding out more about the He-Man mythos, with Smith calling it “a love letter” to the people who watched the original Masters of the Universe as kids.

More impressive Hollywood names are also attached to Masters of the Universe: Revelations with Mark Hamill filling the role of Skeletor, Sarah Michelle Geller voicing Teela, and Lena Headey voicing Evil-Lyn. Renowned voice actors Phil LaMarr (who you may also know from his exploding head in Pulp Fiction) and Kevin Conroy will also be attached, with many others mentioned.

There have also been rumblings of a separate, CG animated He-Man series coming to Netflix in the near future. That’s a ton of He-Man!
